Northampton
is a small, dynamic city nestled along the banks of the Connecticut
River in the Pioneer Valley region of western Massachusetts.
Recently voted "Best
Small Arts Town in America," Northampton boasts a
wonderfully diverse array of shops, galleries, museums, restaurants,
theaters, live music and performance centers all within walking
distance of each other.
A short drive from the lively downtown are quiet New England
villages and farms, swimming holes, winding bike trails, streams
for canoeing and thousands of acres of conservation land.
For the intellectually inclined, Hampshire, Smith, Mount Holyoke
and Amherst Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst are within a 10 mile radius of each other.

It's easy to get almost anywhere in the Valley either by car
or using public transportation. Pioneer Valley Transit Auhority
(PVTA) has buses running regularly between the colleges and
most of the towns. There is a bus stop right in front of Thornes.
Located in the picturesque and historic region known as the
Pioneer Valley, the "Five College Area" for which the bed
and breakfast association is named has been dubbed "the
other Massachusetts" by travel writers.
